DRESSING UP DAYS

The Topic at school this term has been "H20" and today is a themed day, "ALL ABOUT THE SEA" Year 5 had to go as anything from the time of Admiral Lord Nelson. Anyone who knows me well will know that these dressing up days are my own bete noire! I'm not terribly creative and I don't own a sewing machine , let's face it, sewing on a button and hemming school trousers is about my limit.
It has got to the point that ben hands me the letters with a downcast look on his face and a "sorry Mum". I am reasonably pleased with todays effort! He is a Powder Monkey:
Noun
powder monkey (plural powder monkeys)
(informal) an explosives expert. A person who sets explosives.
(nautical) the persons employed to carry gun powder from the ship's magazine to the gun deck during a battle; in the 18th century Royal British and U. S. Navies, this task (also carrying water) during battles became a permanent nickname for the ship's cabin boys and apprentice seamen.
